Written by Rob Whitt
Monday, 05 November 2007

rso.gif With the change in time, you did remember to set you clocks back yesterday didn't you?, we are going to need to modify the way we play doubles for the remainder of the semester.

We will talk about this, the bag tag challenge tournament, results from Centralia tournament, and anything else we think of last minute tonight at our normal meeting place. Sunset tonight is at 4:54pm, so if you want to get some frolfing in today you might want to get out there before 4:30 otherwise you will be playing in the dark!

Successful First Ace Race

Image Thanks to everyone for helping make our first disc golf event a successful one. Even though the lone Ace went to Gavin, everyone seemed to have a good time. But congratulation goes to Gavin for his first Ace!

Sunday turned out to be another windy day, which wrecked havoc for the 20 players who turned out for the event. We had the usual players come out, but also saw some familiar faces that make out it to play now and then. We also had a few guys from Paducah come up for the event. It was a nice turn out for our first hosted event.

ar07_sm.jpgEveryone seemed to enjoy the new tee-off locations that were needed for this event. It changed the perspective of the course which made it both challenging and fun. There were some near misses and we only recorded two “metal” scores, which went to Rob and Jesse. Some discs were lost to the drink, but were miraculously retrieved when the majority of the players decided to throw on some trunks and take the plunge after the event. You guys are hard-core….or just a lil bit crazy. Either way, very entertaining!

Overall the feedback from the Ace Race was a positive one. Everyone seemed to enjoy the player packages and everyone really wanted that grand prize (You’ve been warned Gavin!). Hopefully because of the success of this event we will be planning more soon. Thanks for the continued support from everyone who came out!

Discraft announces Ace Race disc is a go!

news.gif Discraft has just released this announcement regarding the prototype disc used for the 2007 Ace Race .

" This year, players headed out to their local courses at 175 event locations around the world with one goal: to run aces! The 2007 Ace Race prototype disc proved to be a huge hit, and those of you who already own it can look forward to an official name and PDGA tournament approval status very soon. Once it is approved, you can throw your existing copy in any tournament you like. Thanks for runnin' the chains with us! "

I am happy that Discraft decided to move this disc into production as we all thought highly of the quality and flight characteristics for the most part. I will be posting a place for the players to give their opinions about the disc and then event.

2007 Ace Race Grand Prize Sneak Peek!

The 2007 Discraft Ace Race is almost here! This Sunday at the SIUC Campus Lake @ 11:00am is when the fun will begin. I must say I am very impressed so far with the quality of items Discraft has sent me for this tournament. The player package is great with the option of a 160g’s class disc or a 170g’s class disc, cool supercolor mini, and a better then expected hat. You’ve seen the pictures of what’s included for the player package in a previous story, but now you have the chance to see this amazing grand prize package well worth over $300.

This package is top notch and Discraft didn’t hold back on it. There are 14, count them 14 discs, a nice bag, and a large heavy duty towel! The discs range in plastics from FLX ESP down to Elite Z, that’s right no Pro D or Elite X plastic here only their top plastic is in this package. The bag is the tournament bag that easily holds between 12-14 discs, has a drink holder, and plenty of storage. The towel is super large and very heavy material to help clean of that pond scum from hole 4!

So where are the pictures and descriptions of the included discs you say? Well this sneak peek drama is nothing unlike the drama on the likes of American Idol or Survior where they make you wait to after a commercial. Almost as bad with this teaser because this one requires you to click the “Read more” link to find out the outcome of this years grand prize package…..
