Over the past weekend SI Disc Golf and the SIUC RSO held their first annual Ice Bowl. As the slogan states for all Ice Bowl, No Wimps, No Whiners!, and for good reason.
The tempratures were in the 20's when we showed up to get the event going but hardly got over freezing throughout the 2 rounds of play. The wind was the more difficult thing to deal with that day with winds gusting over 20mph and sustained winds of around 10mph.
Our Ice Bowl event was to benefit the Good Samaritan Food Pantry with a overall goal of raising 250 lbs. of canned foods. The event brought in roughly 130 lbs. of canned food at the event itself. While we won't have a total overall weight of canned foods for a few more days we are 100% we will surpass our goal from the proceeds from the the player registration, ace and CTP pools, and raffle tickets. Good job everyone for your efforts!
Beth from Cape Girardeau, MO was the lucky winner of the raffle and got to take home with her a brand new INNOVA Discatcher portable basket provided in part by DiscGolfU.com. Congratulations Beth and hopfully you guys from the Cape can use that around your urban course that we need to check out sometime.
Nate from Cape Girardeau was our winner for CTP with a nice park job on hole #1 on the 2nd round of the day edging out Kevin for the closest. Jason won our ring of fire competition with a great looking long distance putt.
For our overall winner that honor went to Kevin with an overall score of +11. Kevin tied with me for actual score and he ended up winning the hole #19 tie-breaker. Scores were higher then normal for everyone with the lowest score for a round being +3, good job Jason. Thanks also goes out to Jason for braving the ice on the lake and getting back everyones disc that was left on the ice.
