Over the past weekend we held the Jason Strikes Back! tournament to help raise funds for Jason Rodhouse and his family. Jason is dealing with advanced cancer and every little bit of money that can be raised can help assist him and his family offset the high cost of medical bills, trips to the hospital, and the missing of work.
SIDiscGolf.com and the SIUC Disc Golf RSO thought what better way to help a family in need then throw a tournament, and what a great one it turned out to be. While we did not bring in the number of players or the number of sponsors we had hoped we still accomplished more then we could have imagined.
For all those involved in helping set this event up, get sponsors, etc thank you! For those of you that made it out or drove in, some all the way from Kentucky, thank you for coming. Everyone of you made the event a huge success. We were able to auction off all of the silent auction items which helped raise roughly $500 that will be sent directly to Jason's fund.
While it was cold, around freezing most of the day, and highly windy at times, gusts of 20mph+, everyone stayed in good spirits and enjoyed the tournament. Scores suffered due to the cold wether but unlike the Salukis Men Basketball team that day we did not give up.
Hot taco soup and hot chocolate keep us warm after round 1 and then a round of ring of fire got us ready for the second round. We did lose two players due to the extreme cold, but yeah this wasn't the Ice Bowl that we have coming up and its ok to quit due to the temps! I must say if I had gotten in the lake to get a disc I might have gone home too and even Gavin said if he had worn his toeless heels he would have gone home too, but he didn't.
Our overall winner was Gavin with a score of +7 for the day. Me and Travis had to have a throw off from hole 19 to see who would claim second and third with me winning due to a sweet park job for the easy duece. Gavin of course also won the CTP just barely from Kevin, and I won the Ace Pool turned into CTP by a few inches to Gavin. Don't ask why Gavin seems to win all the time as we all know that he can't really play anyways, he's just lucky I guess.
