I believe that this tournament was very well done by the
Springfield Disc Golf Club I look forward to going back there again for more
tournaments hopefully in the near future and not just next year for the same
tournament. The tournament started on time, but the only thing that I thought
could have been avoided was that we (intermediate) were moved to Lincoln Park
to start off the tournament. It was a small inconvenience but there was nothing
that was going out of our way since the courses are less than 10 minutes away
from each other. Both parks are well maintained and from what we heard up there
they are in talks about getting one maybe two more courses up there and that
would be great. Lincoln Park is the longer of the two with some very
challenging shots.
Anthony Ippolito who won the
intermediate division up there with congratulations that goes out to him. I
(Gavin Flure) tied for 7th place, Alex Schimmelpfenning tied for 19th, Kevin Macuiba got 11th
, and Tony Dzuiba also tied for 19th.
I believe that we did well for as little tournament experience our club has.
The Microtel that they put us up in on Friday night was an excellent hotel we
had no problems with the hotel at all. After supper we each grabbed a disc and
went out and picked various light poles to play our own CTP in abandoned
parking lots. The tournament all around was very well run and played with some
great people out there as well.
The Intermediate Division had very little out of bounds areas, but for the Pros they had Island shots to deal with and what I mean by that is that for example the one up there was hole four and they teed off from the top of the hill and then they had to make it in a circle around the basket about a 40 foot diameter. But also when you got to hole 7 it was actually hole 8 and then they made some other alternate tees and alternate baskets as well for instance we would be shooting from tee 8 but shooting back at basket 7. There was also a card CTP and a group CTP I won my cards CTP along with Alex winning his as well. We also had a club CTP and Tony won that from the club. It was kind of nice that they paid out the top 15 places on the intermediate division. So most of our guys got a little something but all of the club members that went up there won at least some part in the tournament.
