So there it is, the alarm clock going off at a god awful 5:45am! Why am I doing this on Saturday morning? That is the question that ran threw my head this past Saturday as I was getting ready to head to Centralia, IL to play along the side of Gavin, Andy, and Tony in the intercollegiate tournament being held by the Illini and Gateway Disc Golf...
We all meet up and headed out of Carbondale
for a short 90 minute drive up to Centralia
to make it to registration at what we thought was 8:00am. I had in tote with me
a fresh Americano to drink, and a full batch of freshly cooked cinnamon rolls.
Where did I find time to make either of those this morning? I didn’t! but
luckily for me and the other guys Melissa was nice enough to make us all
breakfast, THANKS from us all! We also had to make a pitstop before getting to
the course for more pick me up refreshments; including Ski , Doubleshots from
Starbucks , and good old H2O.
Once we finally got there we saw no one in sight except a
few vehicles from Kentucky.
So we decided it was time to get some practice in the chilly 35 degree morning
that was keeping us all awake and alert as possible. After a quick stretch and
warm up session it was off to the course to hit a few holes before the others
showed up.
After we played about 5 or 6 holes we decided it was time to
head back and get registered since it was approaching the 9:30 tee off time and
no one from U of I or Gateway had shown yet (We found out later this was
normal). Finally everyone was there to start registration, so I went and got
our guys from playing early morning drinking games with their Coors pony key (I
couldn’t bring myself to participate, I had quality scotch in tote).
For the player packages we received these ugly as hell
yellow big bird shirts (come to find out this is due to another school giving
crap to U of I for there questionable shirt designs), Gateway Diablo DT disc ,
Gateway mini, stickers, and Tony’s favorite energy gum. Now that we had our
packages it was time to hear how we would be teamed up and where we would
start.
